Cold, rainy, muddy--perfect conditions for an Ontario Camporee Certification weekend!
About 45 boys and 15 counselors from Berean East and Niagara Councils got together on May 9-10 to complete their camping portion of Camporee Certification. A special thanks to Mike Huizinga for allowing us to use his property.
Although we got lots of rain and not a lot of sleep, we had a great time! On Friday night, we all met in Mike Huizinga's shop, then went out to the bush to sleep in our tents. If only we had remembered to bring the correct poles for our tents. On Saturday morning, we didn't have to get up early because we were already soaked and awake. Stepping out of our tents, our feet were quickly disappeared into the forest mud. We spent the morning building a shelter and a latrine. We also cooked our own meals (and cleaned up too).
Now that we are finished this phase of training, we are one step closer to Camporee 2014 on July 23-31 at Kamp Lone Pine in Alberta. Only 67 more sleeps!
